CVH rebuild

April 10, 2009

Sorry for the late update life is not in our favour atm, lost my job so got no money to fund my dream for a little while.  I went to my shed feeling dishartend, I stood there for a few minuits wondering what I should do.  Then it came to me, I picked up my socket set and started to take the engine to bits.  Before I took every thing out of the donor I was driving it for a while the engine needed slight attention.

problems

1,  smoked when it started up (due to age it may be stem sills)

2,  gear box or diff a bit slack

There was no major problems with donor.  I took the head off and there was 16 years of carbon deposit on the piston crowns and on conbustion chamber what came off easily.  I scraped off the rest with a brass scraper and the left over head gasket.  I degreased the whole block and gasket surfaces and was happy with the end result gasket surfaces came up like new and you could still see factory machining mark on surfaces and bores.  The engine is a low milage engine and was only used to go shopping once a week before I had it.

Good bye old freind good bye

Engine , Gearbox and other bits

February 22, 2009

Today I was helped by ashG from haynes roadster forum which he helped remove my engine and gearbox and suplied the engine hoist. in about  a 1 hours 45 mins we had the engine out and the splat box from the engine ash noticed 1 thing about the box it is a type 9 box but it is not all cast half of the box is ally. So just awaiting for the car to be collected if I had more time I would of cut the donor in half and put it on my dads trailer and taken it down to the scrappy. But at least I have all the bits I need off the sierra for my build now.

I need to thank Ash for the help he suplied me with today

Intro

February 17, 2009

Welcome to my build diary thought I would bore you all for a little while by telling you all by how my idea of building my haynes roadster devloped. In 2001 i was walking around halford and i noticed a book in with the haynes workshop manuals, it was build a sportscar for a £100. I bought the book and read it and read it again, I could not find any mk1/2 escorts (well cheap anyways). I put my idear on hold then in 2008 i see that there was a new book out (build a sports car on a budget and race it) by that time I am in a full time relationship hope to get married soon with a lovely daughter (perhaps she will help me make it). So here i am today i have bought a sierra payed £350 for it it is a 1.8 gl with a cvh engine, 5 speed type 9 gear box. I have started to strip it an will be storing my bits untill needed
